Reference: Recorded and illustrated in the standard text on the original lithographs of Miro by Mourlot, No.67; Corredor-Matheos, No. 4
Exhibition: Edwin A. Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita State University, 1978, with the original exhibition label on the support sheet.
Provenance: Pierre Matisse Gallery, New York.
Note: This highly anthropomorphic original lithograph was produced in conjunction with Miro's first one-man show at Gallerie Maeght in 1948. The work had lettering added for the general exhibition printing run (as here). The Ulrich Museum has confirmed that this is their label from the 1978 exhibition. Very rare.
Marais paper is very thin and fragile and used for proofs and tests but is not suitable for general runs.
